Know Your Beauty(products)!

Hello Beautyowls!

Are you sometimes wondering how safe the products that you are putting on your skin are? For sure the Beautyworld is presenting flawless, radiant complexions and promotes the image of perfection but how healthy is all this stuff that we are putting on our faces and bodies sometimes for hours each day?

I have to admit, that I myself, haven’t been paying so much attention to all of this until I became a mom. I started taking a closer look at the ingredient lists and reviews and I have to admit I felt totally lost!

How was I supposed to know which ingredients are bad to the point that can cause, from skin irritations to hormonal disruptions and could even be a cause of cancer? This is not after all my field of expertise and unless you have a chemist or dermatologist in your family you need to find this information elsewhere.

As a result, I surfed online collecting bits and pieces of information. Through my research, I found some sources that I felt were a good and reliable enough in order to make a buying decision for a beauty product or not.

Trust me if I say that this is not so easy for three reasons, Nr.1 A lot of beauty products are not listed. Nr.2 It’s a fast paste industry with new indie brands that are constantly putting new products on the market Nr.3 The differed regulations that apply from continent to continent and from country to country. (What might be considered dangerous in Europe could be OK in the US and vice versa. Because it’s not only about the harmful ingredients themselves but also the amount of them found in a product.)

Now, I am not saying that you should consider every liquid lipstick as potential poison. All I am saying is that it wouldn’t hurt to take a  closer look at the beauty products you are spending your hard earned money on and applying to your face and body.

But who has time for that? You’ll ask me and I totally get it! Well, that was also my problem, I needed something quick, reliable and easy to understand and not just a statement saying, stay away from Bismuth Oxychloride, Butyl Stearate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate and Octinoxate… what???

During my research, I came across some very helpful websites and apps that worked very well for me. I listed my favorite ones with a short description below, for you guys to check out! (If you have also found some good ones please feel free to share them in the comments section below).
